Introduction
About Floreciendo

Floreciendo (“Blooming”) is a sexual and reproductive health program for Latina teens (14–18 years old) and their female caregivers (mothers, sisters, aunts, etc.). This culturally rooted, family-centered program takes place over two days and includes four interactive sessions: foundations in sexual and reproductive health, condoms and contraception, gender and relationships, and family communication. Floreciendo aims to build knowledge, strengthen intergenerational connections, and empower Latina youth and their caregivers to make informed decisions about their health and relationships in a supportive, affirming environment.
The program is delivered over the course of two days and includes four interactive sessions covering essential topics:
-
Foundations in sexual and reproductive health
-
Condoms and contraception
-
Gender identity and healthy relationships
-
Family communication and connection
Through these sessions, participants engage in open dialogue, guided discussions, and hands-on learning designed to promote comfort, trust, and intergenerational support. Floreciendo not only educates but also uplifts families by creating space to talk about sensitive topics in a way that respects culture, identity, and lived experience.
Workshops are held in various neighborhoods across Chicago, including Edgewater, Hermosa, Cicero, and Pilsen, making it accessible to families across the city. To support participation, the program offers meals, transportation assistance, gift bags, and financial compensation. Teens and caregivers who take part may also be invited to join an optional focus group to help shape the future of the program.
Floreciendo is more than a workshop. It’s a movement to empower Latina youth and their families with the knowledge, resources, and relationships they need to thrive.
